Frank Pluta—Candidate for Nanaimo City Council · REAL Nanaimo Team
Frank Pluta has lived and worked in Nanaimo for over 20 years and proudly calls the city home. It’s where he has built his career, raised his children, and formed lifelong relationships within the community. From Nanaimo’s waterfront and parks to its trails and recreational opportunities, Frank believes it is one of the most beautiful and special communities in Canada.
Throughout his career, Frank has spent decades working in business and directly with the public. He also brings prior public service experience, having served as a municipal councillor, a regional district director, and a hospital board member in Northern British Columbia. He has been actively involved with local Chambers of Commerce, Toastmasters, Our OPEN Town Halls, and was part of the effort to help establish the University of Northern British Columbia in Prince George.
Frank holds Bachelor of Science degrees in Accounting and Computer Science. His education and professional experience have reinforced the importance of responsible financial management, transparency, and accountability when managing taxpayer dollars.
Why Frank's Running
Frank is running because he loves Nanaimo — and because he believes the city can do better. Like many residents, he has watched rising costs strain households and seen growing frustration with City Hall.
He repeatedly hears the same concerns from residents across Nanaimo:

Frank believes the city belongs to its residents — not politicians. What has always guided him is listening to people, understanding what is working, what isn’t, and what Nanaimo truly needs. He is stepping forward to serve and to help restore trust through clearer communication, better decision-making, and leadership that puts residents first.

What Frank Brings to the REAL Slate
Frank brings financial expertise, governance experience, and strong community involvement to the REAL Nanaimo team. His background in accounting, technology, public service, and business allows him to evaluate complex issues objectively and question escalating costs or unclear decision-making.
He was proud to be part of the effort that helped defeat the AAP process three times, which demonstrated how easily millions of dollars could be borrowed without residents fully understanding the proposals or consequences. Frank believes informed consent and proper public oversight must be central to City Hall decision-making.
